DVD Section.

Welcome to the brand new DVD Section of my web site. As you may have noticed, I am very heavily into movies, I love movies, I want to work in movies, I make my own crappy little movies. You think The Blair Witch Project had a small budget? Try working with a budget of NOTHING!) Anyway, in this section you will find advice about DVD players, reviews of DVD's, comparisons of region 1 and region 2 DVD's, and also, a review of e-tailers both good and bad. Never again have bad experiences with online companies, let me save you the trouble and give you the nitty gritty straight up! I, (and anyone else who cares to contribute), tell it you, the way it is! If you want to have your say about anything in this section, or you have a DVD review you would like to see online, e-mail whatever you've got to me, and I will post it in this section.

I have recently been given on my birthday, the Wharfedale 750 DVD player, available EXCLUSIVELY from Tesco. It's only £180, and has won a pile of awards and is generally very cool. If your thinking about making the change, as I was, I can now say I thoroughly recommend it, and if your on the lookout for a DVD player, look no further than the Wharfedale, (if you can possible find one). I recommend that you phone all your local stores regularly and ask them if they have any in stock, and when one of them does, (you may have to wait a couple of months, but it IS worth it!) get your butt down there and buy it!

Online DVD Retailer Reviews.

Retailers will be marked in the following categories.

1. Pre-Sales Service.

How quickly they reply to e-mail queries, and whether they actually ANSWER your questions.

2. Online Tracking System.

Whether the company has a working online tracking system, and how effective it is or isn't.

3. Speed of delivery.

How quickly they deliver your goods. Based in direct relation to how quickly they promise to deliver your goods. (You'd be surprised how large these differences can be).

4. General Comments.

Any general comments about the supplier that aren't covered in the other categories. For example, overall impressions, whether you would order from the company again, the state of the package when it arrived, etc.
 
 

DV-Depot.com, (also see links section). I have to confess I haven't actually used DV-Depot yet, but I am most definitely going to use them in the near future. I have however, at least e-mailed them a few sales queries, and so I can at least give them a mark for pre-sales service.  I have hear very good things about them though, and I will post a fuller report as soon as I've actually received some goods from them. If anyone else has used them and wants to write a review, (or second opinion), please let me know, and it can appear right here! Pre-Sales Service =10/10. Best pre-sales service I have EVER HAD. Which reminds me, a big hello to John from DV-Depot. You the man, John! So far, always very fast replies, (within 24 hours), and the replies always answered my questions. I can't wait to order from them! 2-3-4. Don't know yet! I have high hopes though!

 

Play 24/7.com, (also see links section). Pre-Sales Service=5/10. Only spoken on the phone twice, and the people I spoke to didn't seem very knowledgeable, therefore average mark. However, you don't really need any pre-sales service from this company, it's nearly all their web site. On-line Tracking System=5/10. Again average mark, this is because it takes five days for the package to appear on the system. However, by this time, the package has, so far, always arrived at my house! Note: This is a good thing! Speed of Delivery=10/10. Always delivers within the promised 5 working days time frame. The more I order, the quicker they seem to arrive! Last few DVD's came in 3 working days, so I was pleased! General Comments. This is a fairly small company base in Jersey. Even though Jersey is in the United Kingdom, packages may be opened by Customs, according to the jiffy bags they arrive in. However, mine never have been, yet. Packages always arrive very well sealed, and DVD's in excellent condition. Excellent selection of region 1 and region 2 DVD's. Can't say how good pre-sales support would be, but it is very unlikely you would need this, as the web site is very well laid out. Great company, love to do regular business with them. Final Mark: 10/10.

 
 

Sazuma Trading Company. General Comments. This e-tailer is without doubt the worst I have EVER USED. I would advise you to stay clear of them, or you will almost certainly regret it! In my opinion, they are a lousy company with some very dodgy business practises. Another thing is, most of their so called, "rare DVD's", to the best of my knowledge, can actually be obtained from other e-tailers, all you have to do is search a little more for them. Movietyme.com for a start have very similar DVD's to Sazuma, but their prices are much cheaper, and the delivery is also quicker and much cheaper! Besides, why should I bother myself with a lengthy review, when the Home Theatre Forum says it all for me!
